Fully automated shipping containers: Japan to rely on unmanned ships
According to an article by n-tv, self-propelled vessels will not remain a vision for the future. By 2025, Japan’s shipbuilding companies and shipowners want to work closely together in technological development and thus make unmanned ships a reality. By increasing the efficiency and safety of these fully automatic container giants, time and fuel will be saved. In addition, the use of artificial intelligence can reduce the accident rate on the high seas.
Vision could soon become reality
Blockchain technology combined with Smart Contracts can successfully support this project. Transparency and consistent, tamper-proof documentation of all transactions leads to automated, faster process flows and decentralized remuneration processes. Smart Contracts are constantly checking whether on of the previously defined terms of contract has been entered in real-time. These are then fully automatically fulfilled and monitored. The human factor is no longer necessary as a source of error and control.
For example, a container ship arriving at the port could be immediately identified and tracked to its location. In addition, with its own wallet, it would automatically pay port fees directly to the port operator via a Smart Contract. This eliminates the need for time-consuming manual processes.
What now sounds futuristic could soon become a reality with the use of Blockchain and Smart Contracts.
